Project Summary: Metwide Communications was tasked with deploying a mobile signal booster system for the John Holland Mascot Tunnel project, addressing the challenge of maintaining uninterrupted communication in a subterranean environment. This solution enabled seamless cellular communication for workers, enhancing operational efficiency and safety during tunnel construction.
Scope of Works
Cel-Fi Mobile Signal Repeater Installation:
Installed Cel-Fi mobile signal repeaters throughout the tunnel to enhance cellular coverage, ensuring workers could maintain communication via mobile phones and other cellular devices in the previously low-signal environment.
This included coverage for all major Australian carriers to ensure comprehensive communication support.
Antenna and Cabling System:
Deployed a high-gain antenna system connected to the Cel-Fi repeaters, ensuring that the boosted signal was distributed evenly across the tunnel's length.
Outdoor-rated coaxial cabling was used to connect antennas to repeater units, providing weatherproof and durable connections.
Tamper-Proof and Weatherproof Enclosures:
Designed and installed custom-built enclosures for the repeaters and antennas, protecting the equipment from harsh tunnel conditions and ensuring longevity.
These enclosures were tamper-proof and capable of withstanding exposure to dust, moisture, and vibration.
Temporary Mobile Signal Booster Hire:
Provided temporary mobile signal booster equipment during critical phases of tunnel construction.
This allowed continuous monitoring and optimisation of signal strength to ensure consistent communications.
