Network Rack Remediation After Water Damage for Liverpool Girls High School
Replacing water-damaged patch panels and re-terminating structured cabling to restore a clean, reliable and properly labelled communications rack.
Project Overview
Client: Liverpool Girls High School
Location: Liverpool, NSW
Project Summary: Liverpool Girls High School required urgent remediation works after water damage affected the communications rack within the administration office. The existing patch panels and associated patch leads needed to be replaced to restore a clean, reliable and properly labelled network environment.
The project involved a careful audit of the existing structured cabling layout, removal of the damaged patch panels, re-termination of cabling, replacement of patch leads and replication of the existing patching configuration to minimise disruption to school operations.

The Challenge & Our Solution
The Challenge
The communications rack supported critical school network services, so every cable and port had to be identified before any equipment was removed.
Because the cabling had been patched into Aruba switching equipment, the correct network layout, port mapping and labelling structure needed to be maintained throughout the replacement.
Our Solution
Our technicians completed a full audit of all existing patch leads and termination points before any equipment was removed, identifying, labelling and mapping each cable back to the relevant switch port.
The affected patch panels were removed and replaced with new fully loaded CAT6 and CAT6A patch panels, with all cabling re-terminated, labelled and patched back to match the original working configuration.
Cable management was improved using new patch leads, Velcro, labels and rack management accessories.
Work Completed
Full Route Audit
Audited all existing patch cable routes and switch connections before any equipment was removed.
Patch Panel Replacement
Replaced the damaged CAT6 and CAT6A patch panels with new fully loaded panels.
Cabling Re-Terminated
Re-terminated the existing structured cabling into the new patch panels.
Colour-Matched Patch Leads
Replaced patch leads with new colour-matched patch cables for clear, consistent patching.
Labelling Replicated
Replicated the existing port labelling and patching layout to match the original configuration.
Cable Management Improved
Improved cable management within the communications rack for a neater, more maintainable finish.
Connectivity Tested
Tested and confirmed network connectivity across the rack before handover.
Key Outcomes
Rack Restored
The administration communications rack was returned to a clean, serviceable and reliable condition.
Easier Future Maintenance
Organised cable management and replicated labelling make future maintenance and fault-finding faster.
Reduced Fault Risk
Replacing the water-damaged panels and leads reduced the risk of ongoing network faults.
Minimal Disruption
Replicating the original patching layout kept disruption to school operations to a minimum.
